Lëtzebuerg Rugby is reinforcing its commitment to the development and visibility of Women’s Rugby Sevens in Luxembourg through a focused high‑performance initiative. On 21–22 March, the Luxembourg Women’s National Rugby Sevens squad will gather for an intensive training camp at the Coque, the INS, and Stade Boy Konen. Under the guidance of National Coach James Kent, the women’s programme now benefits from the same performance standards, structural support, and strategic focus as the national men’s programme, an important step toward long‑term growth and equality in the sport.

Throughout the two‑day camp, players will participate in technical sessions, contact preparation, tactical field work, video analysis, and team‑building activities. The objective is to prepare a dynamic and competitive squad for the international Conference taking place later this year in Andorra. Coach James Kent emphasised the importance of this preparation, stating:

“I expect a weekend of hard work and focus. Our objective is to build a dynamic team capable of performing at a high level, and this camp is essential in shaping the group we want to take forward this season.”

As the national programme evolves, the club landscape continues to develop. RC Walferdange is currently the only club in Luxembourg with a senior women’s team, competing in the Belgian 15‑a‑side league. In parallel, Rugby Club Luxembourg is building a junior girls’ and young women’s section (U14 to U20), with many new players preparing to take part in cross‑border tournaments. This growing youth base represents an important step toward strengthening the future of women’s rugby across the country.

This initiative also highlights the unique appeal of Rugby Sevens (7s), the fast‑paced discipline played by the national women’s team. Rugby Sevens differs from the traditional 15‑a‑side format through:

Seven players per team on a full‑size pitch, encouraging open and fast play
Short matches, typically two halves of seven minutes
A tournament‑based competition structure, with multiple matches in a single day
A strong emphasis on speed, agility, rapid decision‑making, and continuous movement

These characteristics make Rugby Sevens both exciting and highly accessible for newcomers, providing a rapid pathway for skill development while maintaining a strong competitive identity at the international level.
