Following the resurgence of COVID-19 pandemic across Europe and local authority restrictions, Rugby Europe has announced a suspension of all matches planned until the end of November 2020.
The following games are now postponed:
- Women XV Senior Championship games between Spain vs Russia (Oct 24th) and Spain vs Netherlands (Oct 31st)
- Last round of 2020 Men XV Rugby Europe Championship planned on November 1st (Romania vs Belgium and Georgia vs Russia) and 15th (Spain vs Portugal)
- Rugby Europe Championship playoff access game to be played between The Netherlands and the bottom ranked team in the 2020 Rugby Europe Championship
- First games of 2020/2021 Men XV Senior Rugby Europe Trophy: Lithuania vs Ukraine (Oct 24th) and Ukraine vs Poland (Oct 31st).
Rugby Europe will continue to monitor the situation in conjunction with the unions, local governments and health authorities and will respect the instructions received in the interests of overall public health in relation to COVID-19. No immediate announcement will be made on rescheduling.
Octavian MORARIU, President of Rugby Europe: “Despite the creation of Return to Play Protocol, we have to suspend our competitions to preserve the health of our players and our officials who are mostly “amateurs”. We cannot expose them to the virus or to quarantine periods that would be problematic for them. We still have to be patient before we can organize our competitions in the best conditions.”
