LE RUGBY AU GRAND-DUCHE - RUGBY IN THE GRAND-DUCHY

History of the main Luxembourg rugby clubs:

The Rugby Club Luxembourg (RCL) was introduced to Luxembourg in May 1973 by a group of expatriates working in the Grand Duchy. Several of the founding members still reside there, and in some way contribute to the sport. Today the RCL, after a passage in France and in Belgium, plays in Germany. The RCL finished brilliantly in the top three of the German second division teams in 2010-11. The climb to the first division was more difficult. The future of RCL lies in a high-performance rugby school.

The Rugby Club Walferdange (De Renert Walferdange) was launched in 1990. After difficult years in the Belgian championship, De Renert finished the 2002/03 season Belgian champion of the 3rd division. The club is preparing for the future by expanding its rugby school.

The Cercle Sportif des Communauté Européennes (CSCE) Rugby Luxembourg is mainly involved in a rugby school and U18 and U16 categories, with more than two hundred children enrolled. The school has had great seasons, especially at the level of the U17 and U19 which participated in the World Championships 98 – winner of group D ahead of Switzerland and 99 in Wales, then in the European U18 Championships without interruption since 2000 , improving each year its European ranking.

History of the Luxembourg national selections:

Luxembourg has been a member of FIRA (International Amateur Rugby Federation) since 1976, two years after the birth of the Luxembourg Rugby Federation. Our Federation celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2014. The Grand Duchy has participated in several FIRA championships, and despite its size has achieved honorable results. Luxembourg has also been a member of the IRB (International Rugby Board) since 1991.

Luxembourg Rugby is the only national team sports selection to have won a pool three times in the European Nations Championship. Our national team participates today in the RUGBY EUROPE championships and is currently playing in REIC Conference 1 North.
